The Course, Hole by Hole
The 17th: Ryan’s Daughter
Par 4, 361 Yards
This landscape was chosen for David Lean’s award-winning film “Ryan’s Daughter”. Below the cliffs the beach stretches for miles only broken by the channel leading to Poulgorm; many of the film’s most memorable scenes were shot here.
The setting also inspired the golf writer, Peter Dobereiner, to state that “it is the most magnificent backdrop for a golf course I have ever encountered.”
Playing Tips
Probably the most memorable hole, the 17th is a par 4 which plays from a high tee across a deep gorge to a green perched high against a backdrop of mountains. “The word awesome can rightly be associated with the Tralee Golf Club” is what the Washington Post had to say adding that it is possibly the finest test of golf in all of Ireland.
