 INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS TOURNAMENT REPORT 2009

Although fewer participants than normal, it was a most successful two days. Only 27 member/guests plus 23 local members played which was down 50% on other years. This was due to a combination of timing and recession. Consequently it has been resolved to hold future tournaments well into September - 2010 September 13th and 14th. It was also decided to limit the total involvement to 100 people which would allow us to hold the formal dinner in the Clubhouse on the final evening. Furthermore it was decided that each international member be limited to just one guest.

The weather, although overcast, was quite good with a fresh breeze on day two. Best score on the first day was 87 pts and the Dan Weadock trophy for this went to Larry Bianchi, Barry Murphy, Conor Stack and Harry Dawson. Tim McCoy, James Cashiola, Joe McCarthy and Eoin Liston won the best second day with 78 pts. The runners up with 165 pts were Tom Kearney, Andy Diloreto, Billy Naughton and Gerry Leyden and the winners with 165 pts also were Chip Quinn, Kevin Quinn, James O'Shea and Jim Dooley.

Congratulations to the winners and indeed to all who played. Team photos can be accessed on the web site.

The sing song in the Oyster Tavern was led by Joe Murphy ably assisted by Seán Reidy. There were brilliant contributions from James O'Shea, Jim Dooley, Frank Stephenson and Eugene O'Callaghan, Billy Naughton, though a late vocation to the art of public singing, gave an animated rendition of ‘An Puck are Buile'. Eoin Liston also sang and his version of ‘Allelulia' was absolutely superb. Our guests were very well represented by first time visitor Wayne Nicholas who was a guest of Rob Lawrence. Known as Nick he entertained us with some excellent southern ditties.

On the second night the formal dinner was followed by the presentation of prizes, speeches etc and an early night.

Meals at both venues were of a marvellous standard and we would like to extend our thanks to all involved.

Likewise the golf course was in particularly good shape and again our thanks to J. J. and all his staff. Finally our thanks to Anthony Byrne, David Power, Eugene O'Callaghan and Anne Flahive for all their help in running this event.
